It seems the drama surrounding former Prasarana Chairman Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman has come to an end with a fine of just RM 1,500. The Pasir Salak MP was fined for violating Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP) by not wearing a face mask in a press conference back in May.
Dang Wangi police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Zainal Abdullah told the media that the decision came from the Attorney General’s Chamber (AGC).
“It was decided that Tajuddin should be fined RM1,500 for committing an offence under Regulation 17 (1) Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures in Local Areas of Infection) Regulations 2021 for his failure to wear a face mask during a press conference as stipulated under the movement control order’s standard operating procedure.”
The offence in question took place after the worst LRT collision in Malaysia’s light rail history on 24-May-2021. Tajuddin was recorded holding a press conference at the KLCC LRT station sans a mask.
When a police report was lodged on the matter, Tajuddin had defended himself saying that he had removed his mask and only wear a face shield so it is easier for the press to hear him.
Nevertheless, the AGC has decided to fine the former chairman as Movement Control Order (MCO) SOPs issued by the National Security Council (MKN) states that it is mandatory to wear a face mask beneath a face shield.
