Honda Malaysia has confirmed that the all-new 10th generation 2020 Honda Accord will be launched within this quarter.
The outgoing 9th generation Honda Accord still holds the title as the best-selling D-segment sedan. Despite its age, none of its younger rivals, not the new facelifted Volkswagen Passat or even the Toyota Camry can match the Accord’s overall value for money package.
Prices and variant range have yet to be confirmed but as a locally-assembled model, the Honda Accord pays less in excise duties and should be priced lower than the Thailand-made Toyota Camry 2.5V’s RM 196,888 and the Japan-made Mazda 6's RM 211,148.
However, you can be very certain that it will definitely be more expensive than the outgoing model, probably closer to a Volkswagen Passat (RM 189,012). The outgoing 9th generation Honda Accord tops out at RM 168,998.
Here are the specifications that we can confirm so far:
The all-new 2020 Honda Accord will be powered by a 1.5-litre VTEC Turbo, similar to the Honda CR-V and Honda Civic, but tuned to produce 201 PS and 260 Nm. In comparison, the same engine makes 193 PS/243 Nm in the CR-V and 173 PS/220 Nm in the Civic.
Rivals like the Volkswagen Passat 2.0 TSI make 190 PS and 320 Nm. Naturally aspirated rivals like the Toyota Camry 2.5V makes 184 PS and 235 Nm while the Mazda 6 2.5 makes 192 PS and 258 Nm.
The engine will be paired to a CVT-type automatic transmission driving the front wheels.
There won’t be a hybrid model, which is available in Thailand - details here.
Like the new Civic (still pending government price approval) and CR-V, the all-new Honda Accord will come with the full suite of Honda Sensing advanced driving assistance features, including Low Speed Follow, which the outgoing Accord lacks.
In addition to that, the all-new Honda Accord will have 360-degree parking camera, LaneWatch blind spot camera, Smart Parking Assist System with Brake Assist (Rear) – a semi-automatic parallel and perpendicular parking assistance function.
