Over the last few weeks, UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has been teasing an SUV in their 'Live Hybrid' promotional campaign. It looks a lot like a Toyota Corolla CrossHybrid, and confirming that is a teaser posted on Toyota Malaysia's Facebook page today.
It's just one headlight for now, but the blue highlight on the fixture – a signature of the Corolla Cross Hybrid – is a tell-tale sign. Look closely and you can also spot the 'Corolla Cross' etching on the side.
A registration of interest (ROI) page is also live, and can be accessed here. However, no launch dates have been announced.
What do we know of the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid?
Expected to mirror the Thai-spec car of the same name, the Corolla Cross Hybrid is powered by a petrol-electric variant of the regular model’s 1.8-litre naturally aspirated engine.
The 1.8-litre hybrid engine makes 98 PS and 142 Nm, aided by a 72 PS / 163 Nm electric motor, giving it a combined system output of 122 PS, at least these are the numbers for the car in Thailand.
Other than that, the Thai-spec car gains aforementioned blue exterior highlights, a two-tone interior, and a digital instrument cluster.
Pending further announcements by UMWT, here's the Toyota Corolla Cross line-up in Malaysia as of today:
