It is Day 4 of the total lockdown during the Movement Control Order (MCO) 3.0, or as the media is calling it, Full MCO (FMCO). However it seems that many companies who have applied to continue operation during the 14-day lockdown has yet to receive their permits. The Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) has finally addressed the slow rate of approval.
According to the International Trade and Industry Minister, Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, MITI is not the only ministry dishing out approvals, although companies register themselves via MITI’s Covid-19 Intelligent Management System (CIMS) 3.0.

There are 15 ministries that use the system as well. Once the respective ministries have approved the applications to operate, only will MITI issue the work permit to the respective companies.
Amidst criticism from social media users and even fellow Senior Minister Ismail Sabri, Azmin was quick to clarify that they have only approved 20% of the firms registered with MITI to operate during the lockdown.

Out of 586,308 companies with a combined workforce of 10.2 million, only 128,150 companies with a total workforce of 1.57 million have been given the green light to operate. The approval was given after taking into account of a 60% physical presence in the workplace.
Azmin added that this is a drastic reduction in the total workforce at a press conference held on Thursday (3-June).
