Starting 28-January-2022, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) will be carrying out the 17th Ops Selamat with the use of In-Car Radar and iCOPS vehicle plate scanning devices. The upcoming operation is held in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Razarudin Husain said that expressway mobile patrol vehicles (EMPV) will have both systems installed to easily catch traffic offenders.
The In-Car Radar will be used along highways to ensure that all road users abide by the speed limit. While the iCOPS will be used to check if an individual has any outstanding summonses or traffic arrest warrants as well as vehicles that were used in crimes.
Utilising the In-Car Radar and iCOPS is just part of PDRM’s move towards using digital enforcement methods.
Other than that, Razarudin also encourages those who will be travelling during the Chinese New Year period to take all necessary precautions before leaving their homes.
He urged travellers to inform the police that they will be out of town by filling up a form at the nearest police station or they can download a copy from the official PDRM website.
They can also inform PDRM of their ‘balik kampung’ plans via the 999 hotline or through the Volunteer Smart Patrol (VSP) app.
