Geely Preface named 2021 China Car of the Year

Right before the start of the 2020 Guangzhou Auto Show, the Geely Preface, or known in China as the Geely Xing Rui, was awarded the highest honour as 2021 China Car of the Year at the annual award show of the same name.

The annual award show is known as the fairest and most influential car award show in the country. The Geely Preface won the award after pleasing an independent panel of judges made up of 41 distinguished automotive journalists and experts.

First launched as a production model in 2020 at the Beijing Auto Show, the Preface is the first sedan in Geely’s stable to be based on the popular CMA platform. It also marks the start of Geely’s new era of innovation known as Geely Innovation 4.0.

Other than that, the Preface also won hearts with its new Firmware Over the Air (FOTA) update which was showcased at the Guangzhou Auto Show for the first time. Geely claims the Preface’s FOTA is an industry first on an ICE vehicle.

The Preface is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine mated to a 7-speed DCT that produces 190 PS and 300 Nm. It measures 4,785 x 1,869 x 1,469 mm in length, width, and height with a wheelbase of 2,800 mm.

Closer to home, the Preface is speculated to be the next Proton Perdana but no word yet on whether it would be a rebadge like the Proton X50 or will just be the platform of the D-segment sedan. But either way, the Preface will come to us as a car with a prestigious accolade under its belt!
