Geely’s latest EV is this electric semi-truck that will compete against the Tesla Semi

Normally, we don’t publish news on semi-trucks but this Geely electric semi-truck certainly pushes new elements to a design that was mostly restricted to high-rise blocks on wheels. Yes, there is the Tesla Semi that was unveiled back in 2017 but Geely might beat it to production with the Farizon AD21.
Some of you might recall the Farizon name which we’ve featured on the interesting-looking Proton X70-/Geely Boyue Pro-based pick-up truck. Needless to say, Farizon’s first heavy-duty electric truck is looking a lot better than its pick-up.

The electric semi’s pictures were supposedly leaked from a supplier’s website despite looking all hi-res. Based on information gathered by British automotive journalist, Greg Kable via Twitter, the AD21 will feature quite a lot of interesting tech.
The AD21 would feature swappable battery packs and yet would offer “considerable” range from what Kable was able to share. The name itself is still a codename and the final name will only be unveiled later in mid-2021 with deliveries expected by the end of the year.
In his tweet, Kable has also said that the electric semi-truck will be sold mainly for the Chinese market as the Chinese government imposes stricter laws on diesel trucks which will soon make them illegal in many of the country’s megacities.
As only electric trucks will only be allowed to drive there, it’s easy to see why Geely will want to hop on to this first.

Even though electric cars are becoming more common around the world, it is not the same for electric trucks as the technology for long-distance range is still undergoing development. Maybe Geely has figured that out ahead of Tesla?
