Following the announcement of four new EV models from Lotus, the company has also hired Peter Horbury as senior vice president of design to lead the development plan, reports Autocar UK.
Horbury has guided all divisions under Geely Auto Group that includes building brands like Lynk & Co whilst maintaining mainstay marques such as Lotus and Volvo while balancing production of trucks, private cars and taxis all at the same time.
Last year, Horbury won the Autocar’s Lifetime Achievement award. His four-decade-long career has seen him design cars like first-generation Volvo S80 and XC90, 12th generation Ford F-series trucks, Lynk & Co 01 and Geely Boyue, on which the Proton X70 is based on.
His new position at Lotus includes the oversight of all models, and the growth of Lotus Engineering consultancy that handles third party clients. The design director at Lotus, Russel Carr who led the team behind the Lotus Emira, will resume his current role.
“I first visited Hethel just after Lotus was acquired in 2017 and I’ve been watching closely as the new plans have developed,” Horbury said to Autocar UK, “I’m delighted to be becoming a bigger part of that future.”
Earlier this year, German press reports have said that Stefan Sielaff, Bentley’s head of design, will take over Peter Horbury’s role at Geely. Though the Chinese carmaker has yet to confirm the appointment.
The quest for automotive knowledge began as soon as the earliest memories. Various sources information, even questionable ones, have been explored including video games, television, magazines, or even internet forums. Still stuck in that rabbit hole.
