George Russell plucked from Williams to replace Lewis Hamilton at Sakhir GP 01

With Lewis Hamilton out of commission for the Sakhir GP after testing positive for Covid-19, the biggest question in the paddock had been who will replace him this weekend. The answer came today in the form of Williams driver George Russell.

Russell is no stranger to Mercedes, he previously completed 6 days of practice for the championship-winning team in 2017. He most recently drove for the team in last year’s end-of-season Abu Dhabi test.

He made his F1 debut in 2019 with the Williams team and marked himself out as a future star despite having not scored a point in the sport since his debut.

But Russell does have an impressive qualifying record and has yet to be out qualified against 2 team mates in 36 consecutive races.

Williams reserve driver Jack Aitken will replace Russell at Williams, partnering with Nicholas Latifi for the remainder of the 2020 season.
