Hyundai Group is no stranger to the hotel business, the Group owns the Able Hyundai Hotel & Golf resort that started operations back in 2010. But this time the company is throwing its motoring arm into the mix. Introducing Hotel Hyundai, the first hotel to be powered by a car, the Ioniq 5 to be specific.

Located in Essex, United Kingdom, the Hotel Hyundai is a pop-up hotel that operating for 14 nights from 19-October to 5-November-2022.

It functions like any other boutique hotel, complete with welcome cocktails, a three-course meal, and a cinema, the only difference is that everything is powered by the Ioniq 5’s Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) feature.

The Ioniq 5’s V2L feature supplies AC power (110/ 200 V). It also has an adapter that provides a socket that standard domestic appliances can be plugged into.

Hence, the EV can power the high-end luxury cabin. The cabin is owned by Colemans Farm and offers all amenities, such as a kettle and shower, that guests can expect from a luxury boutique hotel.

The hotel also comes with a bar and restaurant that offers food made from locally sourced ingredients. The highlight is the Ioniq 5 coffee lounge that serves up espressos made from machines plugged into the EV.

Guests can also kick back and relax at the outdoor cinema at the end of the day. The projector and speakers are, of course, powered by the Ioniq 5. There’s even a popcorn machine powered by the car for the complete cinema experience.

The pop-up hotel is just a sample of a sustainable getaway concept. Hyundai was inspired by a poll done in the UK where 46 percent of its participants stated that sustainability and the environment are more important to them now when choosing a holiday accommodation.

Hyundai and its collaborators also hint that the Hotel Hyundai concept might return only at a different location to give more eco-conscious travellers a sample of off-grid living via the Ioniq 5.
