The ceiling price of RON 95 petrol and Euro 2M diesel will stay at RM 2.08/litre and RM 2.18/litre respectively, confirms the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs.
The ministry’s press release stressed that there is no change in its policy governing retail fuel prices and views seriously of media reports claiming otherwise.
It went on to explain that the price control mechanism has been transferred to Regulation 12A of the Supply Control Regulations of the Supply Control Act 1961, since 29-February.
Curiously, a quick check with the Attorney General’s Chambers’ Federal Gazette portal showed that transport fuels have yet to be included in the list of controlled items monitored by the Supply Control Regulations of the Supply Control Act 1961.
However, the status of Price Control and Anti-Profiteering (Determination of Maximum Retail Price for Petrol and Diesel) (No.8) Order 2020 – the original order that set the ceiling price for RON 95 petrol and Euro 2M diesel - is listed as ‘Cancel.’
