High praises: Watch Drift King, Keiichi Tsuchiya get blown away by the 2022 Honda Civic 01

High praise unanimously follows the 2022 Honda Civic in Malaysia, but as it is, there's many detractors of it on social media. No matter though, as much as we likened it to a 'front-wheel drive BMW' with an interior to match Mazda's, it seems we have a supporter in the Drift King himself, Keiichi Tsuchiya.

He's driving the Civic Hatchback (FL) in Japan – a bodystyle we don't get but it's all the same with the sedan (FE) underneath – and has plenty of praise for it. Tsuchiya remarks that he's happy with the car's quality, noting that it feels very expensive.

Tsuchiya also lauds the Civic's 1.5-litre 182 PS/240 Nm VTEC Turbo powertrain, commenting on its torquiness and how quiet it is. For a man who's plied his trade rowing his own gears, Tsuchiya has taken a liking to the Civic's CVT-type automatic transmission too.

That's all in essence to his reception towards the hush cabin, comfortably plush seats, and a cabin that he notes looks more European than a Japanese car. Big praises, these.

If you think we're just hamming up our love for the Civic...just watch the main man's video below.
