In what seems like a very short lifespan, Honda confirms that the facelifted Honda Odyssey will be discontinued in Japan in December 2021, with sales ending as soon as the stock runs out of production.
This follows news that Honda will be closing their aging Sayama plant by then, which assembles the Odyssey alongside the Legend and Clarity sedans as well.
Meanwhile, sales of the Odyssey in Japan isn't very encouraging too, consistently finding itself no match against the Toyota Alphard and even its stablemate, the Honda Step WGN.
In May 2021, Honda sold 1,504 units of the Odyssey and 2,118 units of the Step WGN, placing them 25th and 22nd respectively in the month's top 50 car sales rank.
The Alphard surged far ahead of them with 5,947 units sold, placing it 7th in the same list.
Traditionally, the Odyssey sold in Malaysia is fully imported (CBU Japan). Despite news of its possible discontinuation, we can still expect the Odyssey to land in our shores, as Honda will still have stocks left to sell even after the plant closes.
