Hyundai’s largest SUV, the Hyundai Palisade, was spotted in Malaysia late last month. A Malaysia launch should be right around the corner.
As impressive as the Hyundai Palisade may seem, the question lingering on the minds of most Malaysians is: how much will the Hyundai Palisade cost?

In order to give you a clearer picture, we took prices of several cars from Singapore’s Land Transport Agency (LTA) website, as it provides a transparent open market value (OMV).
OMV is essentially the cost of the car when it arrives at the destination country’s port, inclusive of wholesale price, freight, insurance, and delivery charges, but minus local taxes. In other words, it is the duty-free price, well almost.
Diving in, the OMV of the Hyundai Palisade with the 3.5-litre petrol V6 is listed at SGD 38,980 (~RM 120k), putting it higher than SUVs like the Mazda CX-8 (SGD 31,353, or ~RM 96k) or even the Toyota Harrier 2.0 (SGD 35,935, ~RM 111k).
Closer to home, the Toyota Harrier is priced at RM 250k. By taking into account a similar gap in prices, there’s a good possibility that the Palisade’s price in Malaysia could touch or even breach the RM 300k mark. Keep in mind that the Malaysia-bound Palisade is expected to be powered by a larger 3.8-litre engine. The 3.8-litre engine produces 295 PS and 355 Nm.
The gap in OMV value may not seem like a lot, but over in Malaysia, imported cars are subjected to import tax by the Malaysian government. Because the Palisade is imported (CBU) from South Korea, it is subjected with at least 105-percent in excise duty and 30-percent import duty, bumping the already-expensive price even higher up.
