After its regional debut in Indonesia, Hyundai Motor Thailand is next to launch the Hyundai Creta. Imported (CBU) from Indonesia, the 5-seater SUV has a starting price of THB 949,000, about RM 119,919.
Despite having a rather powertrain โ a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that makes 115 PS / 144 Nm, paired to a CVT (Hyundai calls it IVT) driving the front wheels - the Hyundai Creta is only a negligible 3 percent cheaper than the hybrid-only 2022 Honda HR-V (from THB 979,000, aboutRM 123,000). The Creta's CBU origin could also be a factor.
Yes the Hyundai Creta has 6 airbags and Hyundai SmartSense suite of advance driving assistance systems (ADAS) as standard, but so is the 2022 Honda HR-V, which also comes with Sensing as standard, at least for Thailand.
The Hyundai Cretaโs SmartSense is only a partial suite, with no adaptive cruise control, which the HR-Vโs Sensing suite has.
The higher range Creta SEL variant is priced at THB 999,000 (about RM 126,000). It adds sunroof, LED ambient lighting for the cabin, and not much else.
Separately, Hyundai has also confirmed that there will be no 7-seater variant of the Creta, even though this model was strongly rumoured to be under development for Indonesia.
Instead, Hyundai says the 7-seater Creta will only exist as the Hyundai Alcazar for India.
This revelation also means that there will be no Hyundai-alternative to a Perodua Aruz or Honda BR-V.
Hyundai Sime-Darby Motors (HSDM) has not said anything about launching the Creta here, and it doesn't appear to be part of their immediate plan (next launch for HSDM is Hyundai Tucson).
However Hyundai Asia Pacific has said that the Creta is a regional product that is developed to cater to the needs of users in developing markets, which also includes Malaysia.
