If you're shopping for an MPV, here's why you should consider the Kia Carnival

If you’re in the market for a large people mover and find the usual recond options a tad bit too mainstream, then perhaps the 2022 Kia Carnival would be a better fit.
Prices of the Kia Carnival start from below the RM 200k mark and packs 202 PS and 440 Nm, it has more poke than most recond / grey import options at a similar engine capacity.
With a design that looks more like a crossover than MPV, there’s nothing quite like the Kia Carnival on the roads. Furthermore, the Carnival isn't as flashy as those Japanese MPVs; instead, it looks regal and ready to pounce.
But that’s not all – the Kia Carnival is longer and wider than its core Japanese rivals, so road presence is all but guaranteed.
Stepping inside and you’re greeted with a surprisingly upmarket cabin, one that offers high-quality materials with a solid build.
In fact, it is a massive departure over the utilitarian look of the predecessor model. So much so that the Carnival’s cabin feels like a massive step-up over its Japanese rivals, as the cabin of the two Japanese MPVs are a tad bit long in the tooth.
And with 11 seats in tow, ferrying everyone in your family (maybe even with your in-laws) won’t be an issue.
Product attributes aside, Dinamikjaya Motors, Bermaz Motor’s new subsidiary responsible for Kia models in Malaysia, is paying close attention to the aftersales aspect as well.
In the case of a recond / grey import Toyota Alphard / Toyota Vellfire, their vehicle history is questionable at best, as there are a lot of aspects that a recond dealer can tamper with a grey import MPV, including mileage and auction sheet tampering.
However, with a brand-new Kia Carnival, Dinamikjaya Motors is offering a 5-year / 100,000-km warranty for a brand-new unit. On top of that, Dinamikjaya Motors is also throwing in a free 5-year scheduled maintenance package, inclusive of labour, parts, and lubricants.
That said, if 11 seats are a bit too many and you prefer a bigger boot, fret not as Dinamikjaya Motors has plans for a 7-/8-seater, locally-assembled (CKD) version of the Kia Carnival.
