Geely has announced a new driving simulator will be installed for its technology and engineering development division, China Euro Vehicle Technology AB (CEVT), in spring 2021.
The VI-grade DiM250 driving simulator is designed to simulate any track or road in the world with real-life environments. What’s amazing is there is a car-shaped cockpit that engineers and designers could replace with any models or prototypes in development.
You can hear techno music blasting from this pic.
Theoretically, you could put in a Proton X70, a Volvo S60, or even a Lynk & Co 03+ on it and do a virtual timed lap around the Nurburgring or even play an arcade game like Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune (without the annoying banging opponents)!
In actuality, this driving sim helps engineers with the development and improvement of ADAS suite features like autonomous emergency braking (AEB), blind-spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control in a safe and controlled environment.
Besides, this simulator also helps engineers with further research on self-driving cars as well as improvements in the car’s handling and braking. Developing a new car with a simulator helps to save time and cost.
So, the next time you felt your car’s ADAS working its magic, give thanks to the engineers and their driving simulator. It’s not all about Gran Turismo and Euro trucks with sims after all.
