While Peugeot is under new Malaysian distributors courtesy of Bermaz Auto (BAuto), its plans to roar the French Lion back to life are scuppered thanks to months of economic lockdowns. Thus, it seems that our neighbours will be getting some updated models sooner than us and they will be imported from Malaysia.
According to our Indonesian colleagues at AutoFun Indonesia, the facelifted Peugeot 3008 and 5008 SUVs will be launched in the archipelago on October 2021. The CEO of Astra Peugeot Indonesia, Rocky Irvayandi, told the outlet that they are currently anticipating units to arrive from Malaysia.
Astra Peugeot Indonesia is the distributor for Peugeot vehicles in the archipelago and further proof of the facelifted SUV duo’s imminent arrival is on Peugeot Indonesia’s social media channels. In the past few days, Peugeot Indonesia’s Facebook page is filled with images of the facelifted 3008.
Besides Indonesia, the facelifted Peugeot 3008 is also expected to be launched in Thailand sooner. According to info gathered by our colleagues at AutoFun Thailand, the SUV is expected to be launched by the end of September.
The Thai-spec 3008 will also be imported from Malaysia, much like the Indo-spec 3008.
Both Peugeot distributors in Indonesia and Thailand only offer two models in their line-up, the pre-facelift 3008 and 5008. Both outgoing models are also imported from Malaysia where the Gurun assembly plant is located.
The facelifted Peugeot 3008 and 5008 were introduced to the world in 2020. In Indonesia, both models are likely to only be available with a turbocharged 1.6-litre 4-pot (167 PS/240 Nm) that is paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The equipment and features that will be on the Indo- and Thai-spec 3008 and 5008 could likely be the same in the incoming Malaysian-spec French SUVs. With automotive sales resuming, perhaps we get to see this pair of French SUVs launching on our shores sooner.
