Chinese carmaker Chery has returned to Indonesia, coming back with a brand relaunch event at the Indonesian International Motor Show (IIMS) Hybrid 2022, headlined by their latest Chery Omoda 5 SUV.
It's the car's first appearance outside of its Chinese home market, where it's only due to go on sale there in the second quarter of this year (Q2 2022). That said, Chery has been quick to share that the model will be sold in more than 30 countries too.
The Omoda 5 sort-of signifies the brand's revival: its exterior is distinctively-designed, the cabin looks cool with all the expected modern trappings (with dual 10.25-inch digital screens, an electric parking brake (EPB), and it packs good power from its 1.6-litre turbocharged engine – 197 PS and 290 Nm.
Specifications for the ASEAN-market Omoda 5 are yet to be announced, it's gunning for rivals like tthe Toyota Corolla Cross and Honda CR-V if its size is any indication.

Besides the Omoda 5, Chery Motor Indonesia also displayed the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro, as well as the compact EQ1 electric vehicle (EV).
Give and take a few changes, us Malaysians can expect more Chery models to join the Omoda 5 in due time. Exact launch details are still under lock-and-key for now, but the apperance of some camouflaged models serve as a good indicator for things to expect.
