Clearly, Thais love their trucks as the Kingdom raked up 65,923 units for the first two months of the year and the Isuzu D-Max keeps its title as the country’s best-selling pick-up as well as car overall.
As reported by Autolife Thailand, 29,847 units of the Isuzu D-Max were sold in January and February 2022 with a 45.3 percent market share. Following not completely far from behind is the Toyota Hilux which saw 25,942 units being sold in the same period.
The Toyota Hilux might be the preferred truck of choice in many markets including Australia and Malaysia but in Thailand, it is the D-Max that pips ahead. You could say that the D-Max is akin to a Myvi in Thailand in that they are everywhere across the Kingdom.
Though trucks are king in Thailand, not all are created equal or for that matter share the same popularity. The D-Max and Hilux were the only trucks to achieve 5 figure sales in January and February.
As seen in the table, taking third place is the Mitsubishi Triton which saw 4,289 units while the Ford Ranger took the fourth spot with 3,784 units.
Even though it is essentially a rebadged Isuzu D-Max with a bit of Kodo design injected into its metal, only 138 units of the Mazda BT-50 were sold in Thailand throughout the first two months of 2022. Clearly, the luxury angle that Mazda was going for its truck wasn’t clicking with Thai buyers but then again, the D-Max itself is far more than just a workhorse like its predecessors.
