The brief is simple: take one Single Cab 1.9-litre Isuzu D-Max, set up a route that covers 1,000 kilometers and complete the journey with just one full tank.

Sounds easy? Here is the twist; load up the rear bed with solid crates weighing over 1,000 kilograms (1 tonne), which coincidentally, is the maximum permissible load allowed on a pickup truck.

To ensure everything complies with the target, Isuzu Malaysia even send the D-Max for a thorough PUSPAKOM inspection to ensure the pickup truck is 100% showroom stock.

The fuel tank, crates, and the bonnet is sealed to prevent tampering in case the driver tries to refuel or fill up.

And boy, they did succeed. The Isuzu D-Max 1.9 Blue Power Dura Challenge as it is called, is Isuzu Malaysia’s latest attempt to prove the Isuzu D-Max pickup truck has what it takes to get any job done efficiently and reliably.

On Day 1, the pickup traveled through East-West highway, having to climb a peak of 1,052 m before settling in Ipoh for a night.

The following day, the pickup truck gracefully climbed up to Tanah Rata (1,112 m), went down and up to Fraser’s Hill (1,222 m), one final climb up Genting Highlands (1,604 m) before reaching its final destination at Isuzu Service Centre in Shah Alam.

The D-Max’s final number reads 7.2L per 100 km, with ample fuel to go in its 76-litre tank.

The 1.9-litre RZ4E Blue Power diesel engine, introduced last year in Malaysia, produces more power with its 150 hp (+36 hp) at 3,600 rpm and 350 Nm (+30 Nm) of torque from 1,800 to 2,600 rpm. The engine weighs 56 kg less too.

All-Isuzu D-Max models come with a 5-year 150,000 km warranty. The D-Max is also a certified Energy Efficient Vehicle in the country by the Road Transport Department of Malaysia (JPJ).
