Dinamikjaya Motors, the distributor of Kia vehicles in Malaysia, has confirmed that the all-new 2022 Kia Carnival will be launched in Malaysia, with prices starting from RM 196,340.
For this all-new model, the previously used ‘Grand Carnival’ nameplate will be shortened into ‘Carnival.’
The model is imported (CBU) from Korea, at least for now. Distributor Dinamikjaya Motors has yet to confirm its range of CKD models for Malaysia but Kia Malaysia, which is responsible for CKD operations, has said that it is looking to localize 4 models in Malaysia between 2022 and 2024, and the local assembly Kia Carnival will begin in April 2022.
Only 1 variant of the Carnival will be offered, an 11-seater variant, powered by a 2.2-litre Smartstream 4-cylinder turbodiesel that makes 202 PS and 440 Nm. Drive is channeled to the front wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The specifications are similar to the ones sold in Thailand and Indonesia.
More details on the list of features will be shared but the display car that was previewed at Carlist’s sales event in Setia Alam recently had 18-inch wheels, bi-LED headlamps, leather seats, dual zone automatic air-conditioning, 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, but analogue instrument panel (same other markets have digital display).
Safety features include 7 airbags, ESC, and hill assist control (HAC), blind-spot warning and Rear Cross Traffic Collision Avoidance Assist (RCCA).
Over in Thailand, the top-of-the-range variant comes with the additional Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Smart Cruise Control, Lane Following Assist, and Smart Exit Assist – not sure if these will be included in our local car.
