A little over a month ago, Hyundai Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) unveiled the facelifted 2021Hyundai Kona. At the tail end of the reveal, we were shown a glimpse of the hotter Kona N Line - confirming the variant's introduction here.
Now, the teaser has been reuploaded on the company's Facebook page and beyond quick glances of its exterior, the 15-second clip doesn't give much away. Its exact launch date is still pretty much a mystery, but checks with a dealer reveals that the Kona N Line will be launched in Malaysia in June 2021.
As mentioned before, this is bound to be the Kona's range-topper here. Beyond its sportier exterior - punctuated by intricate 18-inch wheels, aggressive features and twin-exit tailpipes - the interior gets a smattering of racy details too like red stitching, metal pedals, and N logos.
Make-up aside, it's the powertrain that attracts attention: the Kona N Line is powered by a 1.6-litre, turbocharged four-cylinder mill (Smartstream G1.6 T-GDi), making a heady 198 PS and 265 Nm.
It's still unclear if we'll get the front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive version, but both come with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
Barring this Kona N Line, both the currently-offered variants here are naturally-aspirated. They share the SmartStream G2.0 engine that produces 149 PS and 180 Nm, paired to a CVT, under the hood.
Prices for the N Line variant hasn't been announced yet. As it stands, the facelifted Kona range starts from RM 120k for the 2.0 Standard, and tops at RM 136k for the 2.0 Active variant. Prices are on-the-road, sans insurance and with 50% SST discount.
