To be launched tomorrow (20/3/23)
All-new platform and transmission
ADAS as standard
This is not the launch of the all-new (AC100) 2023 Toyota Vios in Malaysia just yet (happening tomorrow, 20-March 2023 at 8:30 pm), which means final prices have yet to be released. However, we now have the complete specifications of the 2023 Toyota Vios.
Let’s get right down to business. As revealed in a previous announcement, there will be two variants of the 2023 Toyota Vios – 1.5E and 1.5G.
Mechanically, both are powered by the 1.5-litre Dual-VVTi 2NR-VE engine paired to a new CVT with 7 virtual ratios. Output figures are a tad lower than its predecessor with 106 PS (-1 PS) and 138 Nm (-2 Nm).
Weight is also reduced by up to 110 kg depending on variant, with the 1.5E weighing in at 1,015 kg and the 1.5G at 1,035 kg.
UMW Toyota says the 2023 Toyota Vios is underpinned by an all-new platform without mentioning specific acronyms, just like the new transmission. But we can confirm that the powertrain is identical to the Toyota Veloz, hence the connections can be made from there.
Dimension wise, the 2023 Toyota Vios measures 4,425 mm (+5 mm) long, 1,740 mm (+10 mm) wide, 1,480 mm (+5 mm) tall, with wheelbase stretching at 2,620 mm (+70 mm).
The 1.5E comes with drum brakes at the rear while the 1.5G gets all-round discs (ventilated at the front, solid at the rear).
The 1.5E also has a slightly smaller turning radius at 4.8 metres, compared to the 1.5G at 5.2 metres.
This can be explained by the difference in wheel sizes between the two variants – 16-inch wheels with 195/60 profile rubbers in the 1.5E and 17-inch items wrapped with 205/50 profile tyres.
Both variants are equipped with manual levelling LED headlamps and DRLs, auto folding mirrors, acoustic windshield, and body kit around the lower apron.
The 1.5G gets sequential turn signal lights at the rear and rain sensing wiper activation. There are also additional chrome pieces on the exterior such as on the window line.
Inside, standard features include keyless entry and push start system, rear air vents, wireless charger, footwell illumination, auto up/down power window on the driver side, and a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity.
As for the differences, the 1.5G gets leather wrapped steering wheel with tilt/telescopic adjustment while the 1.5E has urethane steering wheel with tilt-only adjustment. There’s also a 7-inch fully digital instrument cluster in the 1.5G, compared to the analogue cluster in the 1.5E.
The 1.5G also adds paddle shifters, automatic climate control, 64-colour ambient lighting, electric parking brake with auto hold (manual handbrake in 1.5E), leather seats (fabric seats in 1.5E), soft materials on the door cards and centre console, and 6 speakers (4 in 1.5E).
Unlike its predecessor, there’s no foldable rear seats or an armrest for the rear passengers. The spare tyre has also been removed, though a tyre repair kit is provided.
Safety wise, both get the Toyota Safety Sense suite of ADAS with:
Pre-Collision System (AEB)
Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
Lane Departure Prevention (LDP)
Front Departure Alert
The 1.5G adds Lane Keeping Control (LKC), Auto High Beam (AHB), and all-speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC). This essentially gives it level 2 semi-autonomous driving capability, but without stop-and-go capability (it comes to a complete stop, but doesn't resume driving), which is par for the segment.
Other standard advanced safety features for both variants include Pedal Misoperation Control (PMC), 3D Panoramic View Monitor (360-degree camera), and Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) with Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA).
Both variants come equipped with a front digital video recorder (DVR) and an RFID tag installed on the front windshield.
So there we have it, the full details of the all-new 2023 Toyota Vios. All that’s left is the confirmed pricing (currently estimated from RM 90k to RM 96k), which will be announced tomorrow during the launch.
We’ve also taken it for a drive, stay tuned to WapCar.my for the first drive impressions and the launch report.
The quest for automotive knowledge began as soon as the earliest memories. Various sources information, even questionable ones, have been explored including video games, television, magazines, or even internet forums. Still stuck in that rabbit hole.
