Purported specifications of the upcoming 2022 Proton X70MC1 facelift in Malaysia have been leaked on social media. In one fell swoop it cements what's been said all along, in addition to a few more tidbits here and there.
New 1.5-litre engine for the X70
The biggest news is that three out of five variants will be powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine, the same one from the Proton X50. This is a three cylinder mill, with 177 PS and 255 Nm.
This isn't a new development, since export-model Proton X70s (such as for the Pakistani and Bangladeshi markets) also have the same engine.
That said the larger 1.8-litre turbo engine from the current iteration of the X70 will stay on, solely in the range-topping Premium variant. Output is quoted at 184 PS and 300 Nm. Regardless of engine, all variants will get a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT).
Documents sighted by WapCar.my shows that there'll be five variants on offer, the Standard 2WD, Executive 2WD, Executive AWD (new), and two Premium 2WDs, one of it having the 1.5T engine, the other the 1.8-litre.
This is the first time AWD returns on the X70, after it was dropped from the lineup in 2020, due to low take-up rate by customers (less than 4% of the model's 2019 sales, which was 29,000 units).
New look inside and out
Beyond what's new under the hood, the X70 MC1 will receive a visual nip-and-tuck. Part of that list include:
black roofliner
new rear bumper
new front bumper
New 19-inch wheels (Premium 2WD only)
Waiting list and price for Proton X70 in Malaysia
Checks with dealers reveal that prices will be a little higher than they are now.
If buyers want to avoid this and snag a pre-facelift model instead, we understand that the waiting list is minimal (especially so if one's not picky with colours), and deliveries can be fulfilled before the SST-exemption period ends on 30-June 2022.
The current Proton X70 price in Malaysia ranges from RM 94,800(1.8 Standard 2WD) to RM 123,800(1.8 Special Edition 2WD).
Not quite - recall that the Proton Saga facelift is also coming sometime later in 2022. Other than that there's also tell-tale cues of a new model (Proton X90?), if sightings of camouflaged Geely Haoyues are anything to go by.
