With the global semiconductor shortage in full swing, Perodua, like many other car manufacturers, is facing a serious supply shortage of automotive parts.

Let’s say you booked a brand-new Perodua Ativa or Perodua Myvi today, can you still qualify the ongoing SST exemption? Bear in mind that the new car has to be registered by 31-December-2021 in order to qualify for the exemption.

Fortunately, in the case of the Perodua Ativa, the answer is likely. Our checks with Perodua dealers revealed that there is a minimal waiting period for the Ativa, though this is also dependent on variant and location.

Some Perodua outlets or variants may have a shorter waiting period than others, so it’s best for you to check with your dealer to confirm the waiting period.

As for the Perodua Myvi, it’s an open secret that most Perodua dealers don’t have stock of Myvi due to the semiconductor shortage and production disruption caused by Covid-19. If you booked a Myvi today, you are unlikely to get your car within this year to qualify for the SST exemption.

With cheaper models like the Perodua Axia, expect a reasonable waiting period, though like the Ativa, is also dependent on variant and location. Generally, waiting period is shorter for lower specification variants. 

Other Perodua models, such as the Aruz and Alza have a shorter waiting period. As for the Bezza, dealers say there's a minimal waiting period, though it isn't as long as the Myvi or Axia. It is also dependent on variant and location. 

If you want to get a Perodua and take advantage of the SST exemption, your best bet is to buy a Aruz, Ativa, or Alza.
