Lexus is ramping up its electrified vehicle line-up with 10 PHEVs, BEVs, and HEVs set to be launched by 2025. First among them might be the next-gen Lexus NX which could be launched later this year.

The upcoming compact crossover has been spotted doing tests in Japan and images of it had been leaked. According to some info, the next-gen NX could be offered a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

This could be taken from the Toyota RAV4 PHEV which is powered by a 2.5-litre Dynamic Force 4-cylinder plug-in hybrid engine (306 PS/228 Nm).

Ever since Lexus introduced its first electrified vehicle in 2005, the Lexus RX400h, the Japanese luxury brand has sold 2.02 million electrified vehicles globally.

In 2020, 33% of Lexus models sold globally were of the electrified variety. According to Lexus, it currently offers nine electrified models including hybrid-electric vehicles (HEV) and battery-electric vehicles (BEV) in approximately 90 countries and regions around the world.

The majority of electrified vehicle sales come from the U.S. with 540,000 units followed by the European and Chinese markets with 480,000 units and 387,000 units respectively.

The most popular electrified Lexus model is the Lexus RX with 518,000 units while the second most popular model is the Lexus ES with 384,000 units. Unsurprising really with these two models being quite popular in the American market.

Besides, future Lexus electrified models will also feature a four-wheel-drive torque distribution technology known as DIRECT4 and steer-by-wire systems. Combined, Lexus claims that this will result in a high level of dynamic performance unmatched by conventional cars.
