Booked a Perodua, or thinking about getting one? Well, be prepared to wait a bit longer for deliveries. In a document circular that we spotted, it appears that Perodua is bracing for a shortage in semiconductor chips.

According to the circular, Perodua expresses that, "This impact has slowly resulted in auto companiesn halting or slowing down vehicle production and supply of some spare parts and unfortunately, this has impacted Perodua as well."

As a result, Perodua has told its sales force to expect delivery delays for models such as the Alza, Aruz and Myvi (delays could stretch to March 2021 for the Myvi). However, there's no mention of any expected delays of this sort for the upcoming Perodua D55L.

Having said that, Perodua also mentioned that it is trying to manage the problem, saying, "our colleagues at production have been trying to simulate few pivotal options to mitigate the problems." Let's hope they find a solution soon, as the Aruz and Myvi are high-volume models.

This is not a problem specific just to Perodua and Malaysia, as other brands worldwide also seem unable to get their hands on semiconductors as well. Of course, the Covid-19 pandemic and the resulting lockdowns played a part in this chain of events. 

So, if you're expecting delivery of your Perodua, hang in there just a bit longer.
