Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has launched the brand’s flagship EV, the Mercedes-Benz EQS with a sole variant on offer - the EQS 450+. Priced at RM 698,888 (OTR without insurance, with SST), the EQS 450+ is RM 10k less expensive than the Mercedes-Benz S580e (RM 708k).
At the same time, the Mercedes-Benz EQB and EQC have been previewed.
The Mercedes-Benz EQS is imported from the Sindelfingen plant in Germany. As a battery EV (BEV), import and excise duties as well as road tax have been exempted - valid until 31-December 2023 for imported (CBU) BEVs.

Based on the dedicated Electric Vehicle Architecture (EVA) platform, the EQS 450+ a rear-mounted electric motor (RWD) that makes 333 PS/565 Nm, getting the EQS 450+ from 0-100 km/h in 6.2 seconds, and tops out at 210 km/h.
It has a 107.8 kWh battery that gives a WLTP range of up to 782 km, enough to get from Johor to Penang (around 700 km) in a single charge.

The onboard charger allows up to 11 kW AC charging while maximum DC charging is rated at 200 kW, which takes 31 minutes to get from 10 to 80 percent charge. A charging cable will be given for wall box or public charging stations, measuring at five meters.
In terms of recuperation, Mercedes says the it’s capable of situation-optimised recuperation with the aid of ECO Assist and acts with foresight, taking into account traffic conditions, topography, etc. It is to decelerate to a standstill without using the brake pedal and has recuperation power of up to 290 kW.
The EQS 450+ features rear-axle steering for manoeuvring made easier, and Airmatic suspension.
Since there is no engine sound to alert nearby pedestrians, the car is fitted with an Acoustic Presence Indicator that generates specific Mercedes-Benz sounds outside of the vehicle at speeds up to around 30 km/h.
As for exterior, the Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+ wears the AMG line exterior and body styling, featuring 21-inch AMG multi-spoke light-alloy wheels. It gets Digital Lighting, continuous reflector strips on the front, and Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus.
Mercedes claims that the EQS is the most aerodynamic production car in the world, with a drag coefficient of 0.20 Cd. Operating range as well as noise levels benefit from this.
Inside, the EQS 450+ is equipped with the MBUX Hyperscreen that spans across the dashboard. Multiple displays with OLED technology merge seamlessly to create an impressive curved screen band.
The EQS 450+ also includes the MBUX augmented reality for navigation, MBUX High-End Rear Seat Entertainment System, 2 wireless headsets, Pre-installation for Remote and Navigation Services, Smartphone Integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Rather than pure silence on the move, the EQS 450+ features the two soundscapes Silver Waves and Vivid Flux, reproduced via the Burmester 3D surround sound system. Though Mercedes says that more soundscapes can be unlocked using over-the-air (OTA) technology.
It gets Comfort Seats with Nappa leather upholstery, velour floor mats, roof liner in black fabric, steering wheel wrapped in Nappa leather, Anthracite line structure lime wood trim, and an anthracite open-pored line structure line wood centre console.
Features wise, the EQS 450+ gets 64-colour active ambient lighting, rear MBUX tablet, wireless charging system for mobile devices, and 4-zone automatic climate control. It also has heat-insulating, noise-insulating and infrared-reflecting laminated glass (SmartTag users please be advised).
The EQS 450+ comes with the Driving Assistance Plus Package that includes:
- Active Distance Assist Distronic
- Active Lane Keeping Assist
- Active Steering Assist
- Evasive manoeuvre support
- Pre-Safe impulse side
- Rear sensors for the lane departure assistant
It also features the Parking Package with 360-degree camera and Active Parking Assist.

The Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+ comes with the standard 4-year warranty, while the high-voltage battery has a 10-year/250,000km warranty, whichever comes first.
