Looks like a hatchback but it's not one: Ioniq 5 is bigger than you think, here's how it measures against SUVs

Those who spend too much time on the Internet will remember the digitally-upsized 'Big M8' meme from a few years back. As with most modern memes it's really hard to explain what makes it so funny, and now in a roundabout sort-of way it's become a reality with the Ioniq 5.
Photos can be deceptive, and the Ioniq 5 certainly doesn't have hot-hatch proportions as pixels suggest. It's officially an SUV, and heck, it's bigger than the Honda CR-V.
Here's how it actually measures against Honda's SUV:
This length – actually out-measuring some long-wheelbase (LWB) cars, like the BMW 330Li (2,961 mm) – should be ace in making passengers feel comfortable (the back seats slide and recline), in addition to providing a more comfortable cruising behaviour.
Those, and also a garguantuan boot: 531 litres with the rear seats up, and a maximum of 1,600 with those down.
With all its creases, folds, and award-winning retro-futurism, it's hard to discern the size of the Ioniq 5 unless its put side-by-side other cars or better yet, actually seeing one for yourself.
You'll be able to do the latter (or both) soon enough, given that the Ioniq 5 launches in Malaysia tomorrow.
With humble beginnings collecting diecast models and spending hours virtually tuning dream cars on the computer, his love of cars has delightfully transformed into a career. Sanjay enjoys how the same passion for cars transcends boundaries and brings people together.
