When scary numbers precede a model then chances are it's a launch in Singapore. You'd be right, as the all-new 2022Honda HR-V has just been launched in the island, the second ASEAN market to get the model behind Thailand.
Customers can choose between one pure-petrol variant (1.5 DX) or the range-topping hybrid (1.5 HX e:HEV), with prices ranging from SGD 123,999 (~RM 385k) to SGD 154,999 (~RM 482k).
The Singapore-spec HR-V is fully-imported, CBU Japan.
Details of the Singapore-spec HR-V
The base DX variant gets a naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre engine paired to a CVT, with total output being 118 PS with 142 Nm of torque. Both variants are front-wheel drive (FWD).
On the tip of the model's totem pole is the 1.5 HX e:HEV. Under the hood of that is Honda's dual-motor Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive (i-MMD) system, which mates a 1.5-litre Atkinson-cycle naturally-aspirated engine (106 PS/127 Nm) with an electric motor (131 PS/253 Nm), as it is in our Honda City RS.
Claimed fuel economy figures for the 1.5 DX is 5.8 litres/100 km, and 4.3 litres/100 km for the HX.
Standard equipment on the HR-V are LED headlights, LED daytime running lights (DRLs), and LED combination tail lights.
Differentiating them are wheels (16-inches on the DX, 18-inches on the HX), and the hybrid variant also gains LED fog lights.
All variants also get keyless entry and a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, however the pricier variant gets an 8-speaker audio system, compared to just 4 in the DX.
Rear air-cond vents are standard, and since this is the all-new model it gets the fancy air-conditioning system that acts like an air curtain, and at the same time carrying over the famed ULTRA seats that was in its predecessor.
Sweetening the deal for would-be HR-V HX buyers are the additions of an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, automatic windows all-around, automatic rain-sensing wipers, and perhaps most importantly a powered tailgate. None of these are offered on the cheaper DX.
And like the Honda CivicFE – Honda Singapore's last launch – the HR-V comes with the Honda Sensing ADAS suite. These include:
Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)
Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)
Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM)
Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow (ACC with LSF)
Lead Car Departure Notification (LCDN)

Now that our neighbours across the Causeway have got it, it's only a matter of time before us Malaysians join the third-gen HR-V owners' club. Covid-19 was the roadblock that prevented an earlier launch for us, but it's safe to say it's coming this year.
Upon its launch in Malaysia it'll go straight into a fight with the current SUV stalwart, the Toyota Corolla Cross. That said, don't expect current prices of the HR-V (RM 104k to RM 118k) to stay, as a price increase is inevitable.
