EV Innovations, a Malaysian EV company that built the “MyKar”, has signed an MoA with MARii to develop local technologies for electric vehicles. Another MoA was signed between EV Innovations and Ingress Corporation regarding the manufacturing process.

EV Innovations is a subsidiary of System Consultancy Services (SCS) Sdn Bhd.

This is not the first appearance of the MyKar. It has been showcased at several conventions, and last year, a “performance demonstration” took place at the Putrajaya Recreational Airstrip.

According to EV Innovations, the MyKar is just a concept car to showcase its technologies. Hence, the car is made out of composite materials.

Powertrain components of the MyKar

The MyKar is basically a Honda Jazz (GE8) chassis mounted on a self-fabricated frame. The batteries and motors are all outsourced.

EV Innovations claims that its software for the EV is still in development, so at the moment, the “MyKar” has no ECU.

EV Innovations will work together with MARii for the homologation of the EV and the development of the following technologies:

  • Battery Management System (BMS)
  • EV wireless charging technology
  • Communication protocols for vehicles

None of these were displayed during the demonstration, but according to MARii, these technologies are readily available in-house.

Currently, the MyKar has a battery capacity of 28.7 kWh with a claimed range of 300 km. AC charging is rated at 6.6 kW, providing a charging time of 4 hours.

Each rear wheel gets a 32 PS hub motor

The MyKar is propelled by 2 electric motors (both at the rear), each producing 32 PS and 294Nm. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 18 seconds (almost as quick a Toyota Innova).

The ambition for the MyKar is for it to be ready next year and to fetch a price of below RM 50,000. Still at a prototype stage, a tremendous amount of work is still required to get this EV ready for the masses.

Besides the “MyKar”, another interesting vehicle showcased at the Sepang Circuit was an electrified Proton Arena. The engine had been removed to make way for an EV system, showcasing EV Innovation’s ability to perform an EV conversion.

No engine here

EV Innovations has invested about RM 5 million for the development of the MyKar, a prototype EV with no ECU. To create an EV (ready for production) from scratch is a momentous task and we wish EV Innovations all the best.
