The study takes into account four factors: road quality, improvements in road quality, road deaths, and the relative size of the road network.

Malaysia received an overall safety score of 3.32 out of 10 based on those four factors. According to Zutobi’s data, road quality in Malaysia has decreased by over 5 percent in the last five years.
Malaysia also has the highest number of road deaths at 22.76 per 100,000 people, which is the second highest number of road traffic deaths in the world after Saudi Arabia.

Out of 59 countries the firm studied, Kuwait topped the list of countries with the world’s worst roads. The country is followed by Costa Rica, Georgia, Panama, and New Zealand.
However, Kuwait still has a lower number of road deaths compared to Malaysia at almost 19 per 100,000 people.

On the other side of the spectrum, our neighbour Singapore scored the highest overall score with the fewest road deaths at 1.69 per 100,000 people.
However, the firm’s report states that Malaysia has the lowest number of alcohol-related road deaths at just 0.1 percent. This is despite being one of the countries with the most relaxed legal blood alcohol concentration limit for drivers at 0.08 percent.
