Mazda is developing a new engine: Skyactiv-Z to replace Skyactiv-G and X 01

In Mazda’s latest financial report, the company has revealed that its new engine, the SkyActiv-Z, is in development and slated for release in 2027.

As part of the company’s ongoing commitment to delivering efficient internal combustion engines even in the age of electrification, Mazda aims for SkyActiv-Z to succeed the current SkyActiv-G and SkyActiv-X models with improvements in environmental and driving performance.

The SkyActiv-Z engine will feature Mazda's "lambda one" combustion method, a theoretical approach to achieving high thermal efficiency. The engine’s super lean-burn combustion capability will extend across a wide RPM range, which promises strong environmental benefits while maintaining Mazda’s signature driving dynamics.

Designed with global emissions standards in mind, the SkyActiv-Z is expected to meet stringent regulations, including Euro 7 in Europe and LEV4/Tier 4 in the U.S.

Mazda has also hinted that the combustion technology behind SkyActiv-Z could be adapted for their inline six-cylinder engines, enhancing efficiency across its lineup. This engine development aligns with Mazda’s broader plan to streamline its engine offerings, focusing on efficiency and reducing overall complexity.
