Mazda Malaysia is ramping up Sept’s production, chip shortage not an immediate concern 01

Bermaz Motor, the distributor of Mazda vehicles in Malaysia has about 1,200 backlogged orders to be fulfilled and with the resumption of manufacturing activities at the Mazda Malaysia plant in Kulim, the company is looking to fulfill these orders very soon.

Currently, Mazda already has about 1,000 cars waiting to be delivered to customers.

Although Mazda’s operations in Japan are affected by the global chip shortage, its local operations have enough stockpile of parts to last for another one to two months, more than enough for the plant to fulfill the outstanding orders.

Beyond this quarter, there will still be risk of supply disruption as the global shortage for semiconductor parts is not expected to see significant improvements until 2022.

According to documents sighted by WapCar.my, Mazda Malaysia will be ramping up September’s production target to around 1,700 units, which is around 500 units higher than the average pre-Covid-19’s monthly output.

Since showroom operations have resume, Mazda dealers have been receiving about 30 bookings per day, a very positive indicator on the strong demand for Mazda cars in Malaysia.

The Mazda CX-5 is still the company’s best seller, contributing slightly more than half of all sales. The Mazda CX-8 is the second most popular model, followed by the Mazda CX-30, Mazda 3, Mazda CX-3, Mazda 2, Mazda CX-9, and Mazda 6, in that order.

The CX-5 and CX-8 are locally-assembled in Kulim, exported to Thailand, Indonesia, and Philippines too. The Mazda 2 is imported from Thailand, while rest of the Mazda models are imported from Japan.
