After months of delay due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Formula 1 season is set to return this weekend in Austria. While fans can’t wait to see the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel, and Max Verstappen returning to the track, there is one important car that helps to keep things under control when there’s an accident on the track or when the weather is bad, and that's the safety car.

Mercedes-AMG has been the official safety car manufacturer for nearly 25 years beginning with the CLK 55 AMG in 1997. The current safety car is the Mercedes-AMG GT R which has been in use since 2018.

This year, Mercedes-AMG has swapped out its traditional silver and black paint job for a new livery. In support of Formula 1’s “WeRaceAsOne” campaign to promote diversity and inclusion, a rainbow visual is placed on the flanks and bonnet of the car.

This visual will also be seen on all Formula 1 cars as well as around the race track. So, with the Formula 1 season finally about to start on 3 July 2020, is anyone excited to see their favourite drivers duke it out?
