A total of 1,780 officers of the military force has been mobilised in what is known as Op Penawar to assist the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) on enforcing the current Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) and Targeted Enhanced Movement Control Order (TEMCO) guidelines that certain states in Malaysia are observing.
On Monday 13 October 2020, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that the government has decided to reinstate CMCO on Sabah, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Putrajaya following the increasing number of Covid-19 cases in said states.
Meanwhile, states like Kedah has been observing TEMCO since September 2020
PDRM has already set up roadblocks as of 12.01 am on 14 October 2020, but now the National Security Council (MKN) has announced that the military officers from the Malaysian Army (TDM), the Royal Malaysian Airforce (TUDM) and the Royal Malaysian Navy (TLDM) will also be assisting with the movement.
The officers will focus more on areas that have been earmarked as “red zones” by MKN such as the Pokok Sena Prison. The military will also be patrolling in open markets to ensure all standard operating procedures (SOP) set by the government are followed at these areas.
Don’t be surprised if you see huge forces of military officers gathering ahead of you. They are there to ensure that all guidelines are followed and prevent the current Covid-19 situation in Malaysia from getting worst.
