It looks like MINI may become an EV-only earlier than expected. Worldwide sales of MINI’s EV models, currently represented only by the MINI Electric (whose actual name is quite a mouthful – MINI Cooper SE 3-Door), nearly doubled last year, from 17,580 units in year 2020 to 34,851 units in 2021.

Between January to December 2021, MINI sold 302,144 cars globally, up 3.3 percent from the year before.

The MINI 3-door is the brand’s most popular model, shifting 105,511 units, up 10.1 percent. Of this total, 33 percent of it came from the MINI Electric, thus making it MINI’s best-selling variant.
The majority of MINI Electric’s buyers came from Germany, snapping up more than 10,000 units last year, making up about a third of MINI Electric’s worldwide sales.

The MINI Countryman is the brand’s second best-selling model worldwide, selling 82,362 units, up 6.0 percent.

By the early 2030s, MINI will be an electric-only company. The brand will launch its last combustion engine model in 2025. In some countries like Iceland, the MINI Electric already contributes 62 percent of sales.
