Mugen, the hallowed name behind many revered Honda cars, have set their grubby hands on the all-new 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback. Though we'll have to wait a little longer for the details, here's a clue into what's coming.

A single-piece front lip starts things off, and enhancing the profile are a pair of racier side skirts. Round the back, there's a small spoiler and a slightly tweaked rear bumper with its appendages finished in black, much like the rest of the bodykit.

Capping off the looks are dual-tone wheels, finned side mirror caps, and accessories like inner door handle protectors. Just like how it is on the all-new Honda HR-V, the Saitama outfit will also offer sporty interior trimmings later on.

This being Mugen - a company founded by Soichiro Honda's only son - performance updates are set to come as well. Mugen has said that they'll be developing a sports exhaust system and 18-inch forged wheels for the Civic Hatchback.

Full details of the parts and pricing will be released on 3-September 2021, incidentally the same day the Civic Hatchback launches in Japan.

What about the Honda Civic sedan?

Japanese customers receive the Civic only in hatchback form, and as such there's been no word about a Mugen-ified Civic sedan.

Also, besides the CVT, the Civic Hatchback receives a 6-speed manual gearbox, which probably suits Mugen's ambitions better. The sedan is CVT-only.

But that doesn't mean Civic sedan customers elsewhere will be left wanting - Modulo already has options for Thailand customers, and these should eventually trickle to other markets where the car will be sold in as well.
