One of the ways car makers drum up hype before their cars go on sale are by showing teasers, but it’s a little different for some Germans - some of them prefer to smash the Nürburgring lap record, as is the case with the 2021 Porsche Panamera.
Of course, the key to this is to make more power. Stuttgart’s finest tinkered with the V8 to make 630 PS and a staggering 820 Nm (an 80 PS and 50 Nm bump from 550 PS and 770 Nm the curent Panamera Turbo S makes).
The chassis and suspension has been enhanced, and the sedan rolls on specially-developed Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres, giving the driver control to go with the speed.
All this meant it circled the 21 km circuit in 7:29.81 - effectively being the record holder for the ‘Executive Cars’ category after edging out the 7:30:11 time set by the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S in 2018. This also means that the new Panamera is 13 seconds faster than its predecessor.
Porsche will unveil the new Panamera at the end of this month. Yes, they’ve also confirmed that the bespoke Michelins will be part of the options - making it truly a race car to drive to business deals with.
