New 2022 Perodua Myvi open for booking, now with Smart Drive Assist, no more MT, CVT hinted 01

Perodua has announced today that dealers are now accepting bookings for the new 2022 Perodua Myvi (codename D51A), thus confirming earlier reports that a new facelift is due for Malaysia’s No.1 selling car.

To be clear, this is not an all-new generation model, but an upgraded version of the current third-generation Perodua Myvi.

The new 2022 Perodua Myvi’s variants will include the 1.5 litre AV (Advance Variant), 1.5 litre H variant, a 1.5 litre X variant as well as two 1.3 litre G variants (with and without ADAS features, better known as Perodua Smart Drive Assist).

Specifications have yet to be announced but Perodua says this new Myvi will only be sold with an automatic transmission. This means that the outgoing 1.3G Manual variant will be dropped.

As before, the AV, H and X variants will come with advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) features but this time around, the list of ADAS functions will go beyond AEB.

Perodua Smart Drive Assist (PSDA) is mentioned, meaning that the new Myvi will have safety features similar to the Perodua Ativa, including lane departure warning with steering assist, blind spot monitor, adaptive cruise control, auto high beam, and rear cross traffic alert.

The list of upgrades doesn’t just stop there. For the first time ever, such features will be extended to the entry 1.3L G variant.

Outgoing pre-facelift Myvi

Perodua did not make any reference to the rumoured new CVT-type automatic transmission replacing the current model’s archaic 4-speed automatic, but it did say that the new Myvi will be more fuel efficient than before.

Claimed fuel consumption for the 1.3-litre variant has gone up from the previous 21.1 km/litre to 22.2 km/litre, a very CVT-like figure for a B-segment hatchback.

The engine will remain the same 1NR-VE 1.3-litre and 2NR-VE 1.5-litre, both with Dual VVT-i. The latter is shared with the Toyota Vios, Yaris, and Avanza, but carries a slightly different 2NR-FE engine code. The FE suffix refers to cars coming out of Toyota's plant, while VE is used for Daihatsu plants.

Prices have gone up quite significantly too, starting from from RM 45,700 to RM 58,800 (Peninsular Malaysia, without insurance, inclusive of SST exemption). That’s a lot more than the RM 43,029 for the cheapest 1.3G Automatic and RM 52,697 for the highest specs 1.5 AV.

That's a a very big 12 percent increase in price for the 1.5 AV! The base model too has increased by 6 percent. With better features, an increase in price is to be expected but perhaps the weak Ringgit has also amplified this increase?

There’s also a new colour - Cranberry Red, which is only available for the AV. Other colours include Ivory White, Glittering Silver, Lava Red (not available for the AV), Granite Grey, and Electric Blue.
