Despite Hyundai focusing more on its growing lineup of SUVs and the range of Ioniq electric vehicles (EVs), the evergreen Hyundai Sonata is not exactly forgotten by the italic H brand as it has unveiled a facelift of the D-segment sedan.

Currently in its eighth generation, the DN8 2023 Hyundai Sonata facelift receives a sportier exterior design and a new badge. The pre-facelift was introduced in 2019 when the Sonata was “reborn” as a stylish four-door coupe.

The Sonata’s low-slung exterior exemplifies Hyundai’s progress in automotive design and the front design integrates the signature Seamless Horizon Lamp, hidden headlamps, wide grille, and air intake for a more dynamic and aggressive appearance.

At the rear, new H-lights further emphasised the Sonata’s high-tech image and wide stance. The N Line further amplifies the impression of a high-performance sports sedan with the addition of a rear spoiler, dual twin-tip mufflers, and 19-inch wheels.

Inside, the Sonata boasts a driver-centric layout which matches its sporty exterior while offering high-tech features. There is a panoramic curved display that combines both the 12.3-inch driver information clusters and 12.3-inch infotainment system which is a first for a Hyundai model.

The application of a column-type shift-by-wire controller behind the steering wheel frees up the space in the centre console area. This area also emphasises ergonomics which is further enhanced by the palm rest that provides more comfort for the driver. Still, Hyundai has yet to provide powertrain info on the new Sonata facelift which would likely be revealed during its launch in Korea.

The new 2023 Hyundai Sonata facelift will make its global unveiling at the upcoming Seoul Mobility Show which will be held from 30-March to 9-April 2023. It remains to be seen whether Hyundai Sime Darby Motor (HSDM) will be bringing in the Sonata facelift into Malaysia as the pre-facelift is no longer listed on the website.

At the same time, the Sonata's time might also be reaching its end. With global sedan sales dropping, the Sonata seemed to be on the chopping block as Hyundai is focusing more on its future Ioniq EV models.
