Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM) has confirmed that it will be launching a new 2022 Nissan Serena S-Hybrid in Malaysia soon. Bookings are now open (minimum RM 1,000).

Prices have yet to be announced but it is estimated to start from just under RM 150,000 for the base model, and under RM 165,000 for the Premium variant.

As before, all Serena models sold in Malaysia come with the highest Highway Star trim.

Deliveries will take begin in July 2022, so no SST-exempted priced (assuming that there is no further extension by the government) for the MPV.

“ETCM encourages customers to make their booking early (minimum amount of RM1,000) to secure a booking in the system.  It will also help the assembly plant to schedule production more accurately and minimize waiting time as disruptions continue due to semiconductor microprocessor shortages and global shipment delays. Depending on the variants, there are up to four colour choices,” said the company.

Early birds promo

Early buyers who make a booking now will also enjoy a 5-year free maintenance package (inclusive of parts & labour), to be provided at alternate intervals (10,000 kms, 30,000 kms, 50,000 kms, 70,000 kms and 90,000 kms).

Powertrain will remain unchanged, with a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated unit paired to a CVT-type automatic transmission. Nissan calls it an S-Hybrid engine but it’s actually just an upgraded starter motor. There is no electric drive or true hybrid function.

Now with better ADAS

Safety features have also been improved. The new 2022 Nissan Serena S-Hybrid now adds the following advance driving assistance systems (ADAS) safety features:

• Intelligent Predictive Forward Collision Warning
• Intelligent Forward Collision Braking
• Lane Departure Warning
• Blind Spot Warning
• Rear Cross Traffic Alert
• 360-degree Around View Monitor

As before, 6 airbags are standard, as are ABS and electronic stability control.
