New candidate for Optimus Prime! Behold Geely’s full EV Farizon Homtruck

We knew that Geely Holding Group is working on an electric vehicle (EV) long haul truck to go up against the Tesla Semi, now here are the first photos and videos of the new Farizon Homtruck.

Farizon Auto, Geely’s commercial vehicle division, hopes to start production and deliveries of the smart new energy long haul truck by 2024.

The Homtruck’s architecture is built to support various powertrain options. Buyers can choose between a range extender, methanol hybrid, and pure electric with battery swapping option based on China’s new standards released by the Ministry of Industry and Technology.

This means that the Homtruck wouldn't need to wait for a charging port and will get a full charge within minutes after a quick battery swap at a service station across highways.

Farizon claims that the Homtruck was penned with the idea of creating a home within a truck cab. This is because more often than not, truck drivers spend more time in the truck cab than they do at home.

So, the Homtruck is equipped with a bathroom complete with shower and toilet, single bed, refrigerator, tea maker, kitchen, and even a small washing machine. Farizon also made use of eco-friendly materials like sustainable plastics and bamboo grain trims within the interior.

The seats are also ergonomically designed to reduce tiredness while a high-definition camera helps monitor if drivers are well-rested and focused while driving. There is also an intelligent AI Assistant coupled with 360-degree cameras to help eliminate blind spots around the truck.

Other handy features include Level 4 hands-off autonomous drive functions. Farizon also states that they will introduce convoying features for longer journeys. The system will allow trucks to communicate with each other to maintain a safe speed and distance.

Hardware sensors like lidar, millimetre-wave radar, and ultrasonic radar will be standard equipment along with 5G and V2X communication. Like all new Geely vehicles, the Farizon Homtruck is also capable of Over the Air (OTA) software upgrades.

With 5G connection equipped, Farizon has designed the Homtruck to connect to the logistics network’s big data platform to help drivers obtain the most optimal orders in real-time, analyse and track deliveries, and calculate operating costs along the route.

The Homtruck is even capable of analysing traffic data in real-time and receiving route recommendations.

With a front-end like that, we can easily imagine the Farizon Homtruck as the next candidate for Optimus Prime!
