Here are the main highlights of the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show! 01

This year’s 46th Tokyo International Motor Show (TMS) will have a very different approach. Under the theme ‘Open Future’, this year’s TMS aims to showcase their vision of the future of mobility.

Keeping in line with the theme, Japanese carmakers will be presenting concepts that they believe will be mobility solutions of the future. Key highlights include electrified vehicles, advanced connectivity and autonomous driving technologies.

An alleged brochure of the 2019 TMS was leaked online, showing some of the highlights that will be presented during the show. And we are excited about what’s in store for the next few days.

Next-generation Honda Fit (Honda Jazz)

Honda will be presenting the all-new fourth-generation Honda Fit, also known as the Jazz in Malaysia. Based on the leaked image, the new Fit wears a completely new and more roundel design that draws more parallels with the second-gen Fit (GE).

Details of the new B-segment hatchback are scarce, but it will come with a completely revamped interior. Expect a more efficient powertrain line up as well. Word on the streets that Honda will finally introduce a full-fat Type R version in the new Fit. Enthusiasts have lots to look forward to.

Mazda MX-30 Electric Vehicle

After pushing the limits of conventional combustion engines with their SkyActiv technology, Mazda is now previewing their first step in electrification. The Mazda MX-30 will be the brand’s first full-electric vehicle (EV).

Previously, the company has teased their EV in the shape of the e-TPV, a test mule in the body of the CX-30. What’s even more interesting is the MX-30 name. Is it related to the MX-5? If so, how is it related? All to be revealed in due course.

Subaru Levorg Prototype

First teased as the Subaru Viziv Tourer in 2018, the soon to be unveiled Levorg Prototype sheds much of its concept skin giving us a more realistic image of the next-generation wagon.

Not only that, but it is also a testbed for Subaru to introduce advanced automated driving technology for mass-market products. In recent years, Subaru has invested heavily in autonomous driving tech, having recently opened a dedicated test track for autonomous driving research at their Bifuka Proving Ground in Hokkaido, Japan.

A Subaru wagon that not only looks the part but also able to drive itself, take my money!

Toyota Mirai Concept

A teaser of Toyota’s next-generation Mirai Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) will be presented at the coming TMS. While Toyota still calls it a ‘concept’, we wouldn’t be surprised that this design will be on production versions.

We’ve reported on the car previously. To recap, the next-gen Mirai rides on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform, gains a sleeker interior as well as an improved driving range.

Toyota Granace

If the Toyota Alphard doesn’t quite stand out for you, perhaps the Toyota Granace would suit your taste. The Granace is essentially an ultra-luxurious version of the Hiace. Need I say more?

This year’s TMS is shaping up to be a showcase of innovative technologies and not just a show filled with concept cars. It shows that

These are just some of the main highlights at the upcoming TMS and there may be more surprises in store. Stay tuned to Wapcar.my as we bring you live updates on the 46th Tokyo International Motor Show.
