Daihatsu quietly displayed an unnamed SUV at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show (TMS). The car wasn’t out of place at the motor show nor did it stand out in a sea of funky show cars.

What caught out attention was the display note on the car which loosely translates to “new production-ready SUV” English and the stark resemblance of the rear design to the Perodua Myvi.

The fact that Perodua has shown a 5-seater SUV concept at the recent 2019 Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show (KLIMS) is all too much of a coincidence don’t you agree?

Details of the SUV was not discussed extensively at the motor show, but we do know that it is powered by a 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine and CVT automatic pushing out 98 PS and 140 Nm of torque.

Unlike the Aruz which is rear-wheel driven, this Daihatsu SUV is a front-wheel drive model.

Interesting features on the show car include full suite of Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) which bundles Autonomous Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, heated seats, floating touchscreen infotainment system, full LCD instrument cluster as well as a Sports mode for the transmission.

All Perodua models sold in Malaysia can be traced back to Daihatsu roots. Hence, it is not surprising that this would be the base for Perodua’s next SUV if they ever decided to build one.

Note that while the exterior styling and interior features may blow your socks away, the material used in here are a bit more basic (read: hard plastics). This gives us an indication that the car has a more budget-friendly positioning which is suited for the ASEAN region.
