Let’s take a closer look at the new Mitsubishi ASX 01

First introduced in 2010, the Mitsubishi ASX is in the final legs of its model life now. However an all-new model is still some years away and the management shakeup at Mitsubishi Motor’s partner Nissan isn’t helping matters.

The display model seen here at the recent Tokyo Motor Show is major facelift of the current generation ASX. It wears the RVR nameplate because that’s what the Mitsubishi ASX is sold as in Japan.

The new ‘Dynamic Shield’ design Mitsubishi ASX was first previewed at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year.

The new angular front-end has shaved off a few years off the ASX’s dated looks. Gone is the trapezoidal grille. In its place is a new face draws a close relation with the new Mitsubishi Triton and Mitsubishi Outlander.

Behind, the new tail lights drew mixed reactions. It had a rather after-market feel to it and it didn’t seem like an improvement over the previous model’s tail lights.

Inside, the cabin remains largely unchanged. The panoramic glass roof remains the highlight, and it’s one of the few redeeming features (along with selectable 4WD) that keeps the aging ASX competitive against its younger competitors like the Honda HR-V and Subaru XV.

The Mitsubishi ASX is locally-assembled at the Tan Chong Motor Assemblies plant in Segambut but there doesn’t seem to be any plans to introduce the new Mitsubishi ASX here anytime soon.
