After 6 years of being on sale, the current-generation Geely Boyue, codenamed NL3, will finally be bowing out soon, as spyshots of the all-new, CMA-based model have surfaced. The new model is codenamed FX11.

Similar to other Geely pre-production mules in the past, this particular unit is covered in copious amount of camouflage, though with some visible bits. Let’s dive in.

First things first, the all-new Geely Boyue could be going even more upmarket than before, as hinted by the chrome bits that now extend to cover bits of the door-mounted side mirrors.

Speaking of the side mirrors, Geely has repositioned the side mirrors to the base of the A-pillar, presumably to give drivers better visibility than before.

And unlike the outgoing Geely Boyue, it seems like the all-new model will get hidden muffler tips, as shown in the spyshot depicting the underneath of the SUV.

The multi-link rear suspension configuration appears to have been carried over from the predecessor model as well. No surprises there, as the all-new Geely Boyue is tipped to be developed on the modular CMA architecture.

As for powertrain, the dated turbocharged 1.8-litre 4-cylinder engine will most likely make way for a newer unit. As to which engine will Geely fit into the all-new Boyue, that remains a question mark for now, but the Hangzhou-based company has a range of 1.5- and 2.0-litre engines at their disposal, either of which could find their way into this SUV.

We can also expect mild-hybrid (MHEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variants of the all-new Boyue after the model debuts.

What about Malaysia?

Seeing that Malaysia’s Proton X70 is based on the Geely Boyue, it is only a matter of time before the second-generation Proton X70 is offered in Malaysia.

The current generation Proton X70 only began production in Malaysia at the Tanjung Malim plant in late-2019, before launching in February 2020, just before MCO/CMCO wreaked havoc on the company’s projections.

Now, we expect the current-generation Proton X70 so soldier on for at least another 5 more years, which also means that we could be skipping the all-new Boyue and instead receiving the facelifted version, likely by 2025.
