Dongfeng Honda could CKD the 2022 Civic Type R in China
The hot hatch is said to launch in China in September
Which other country will manufacture the Civic Type R?
The all-new 2022 Honda Civic Type R is almost upon us, but with the closure of Honda's Swindon plant in the UK, it remains to be seen which plant will manufacture the all-new model.
While we wait for Honda to make that announcement, a report out of China claimed that China will be locally-assembling (CKD) the hot hatch.
The previous FK8-generation Honda Civic Type R was manufactured by Honda of the UK Manufacturing Ltd at its Swindon plant, but said plant closed its doors 7 months ago.
According to the report, Dongfeng Honda will likely import CKD kits and assemble the Civic Type R for its domestic market. The all-new Civic Type R could be launched in China as soon as September.
As a brief recap, the all-new 2022 Honda Civic Type R is expected to carry over the outgoing model’s turbocharged 2.0-litre K20C petrol engine, but with the addition of two electric motors on the rear axle, effectively turning it into a hybrid.
A 6-speed manual transmission will most likely be offered, continuing the Type R legacy.
But trick powertrain aside, the next-gen Type R will also get a host of visual and handling improvements over its plebian sibling, including a more aggressive front bumper, a massive rear wing to keep things plant, as well as large Brembo brakes for superior stopping power.
