You’re looking at patent images of the successor to the Volvo XC90, though its name is yet to be announced as Volvo will be using a different naming convention for their upcoming EV models.
That’s right, the next-generation Volvo XC90 (we’ll call it the 2023 Volvo XC90 for now) will be an electric vehicle (EV). Last year, Volvo unveiled the Concept Recharge, which served as a manifesto for the next generation of all-electric Volvos and the basis for the XC90 replacement model.
Being an EV, the 2023 Volvo XC90 loses its front grille, and gets sleeker headlamps with its distinct Thor’s hammer graphics. It appears to have flush door handles that will presumably pop out upon unlocking.
At the rear, there’s a Polestar vibe with the C-shaped taillamps, though it doesn’t appear to have a full-width light bar based on the greyscale images. Interestingly, it does appear to have split-taillights with vertical sections flanking the rear window. Overall, it’s still recognizably a Volvo.
The quest for automotive knowledge began as soon as the earliest memories. Various sources information, even questionable ones, have been explored including video games, television, magazines, or even internet forums. Still stuck in that rabbit hole.
